👑 The Monarchy

King Charles III serves as the head of state in the UK and holds the same position in many Commonwealth countries. The UK operates under a constitutional monarchy, where the King or Queen doesn't govern directly but instead appoints the government elected by the people. The monarch invites the leader of the party with the most MPs, or a coalition leader, to become the Prime Minister. While the monarch regularly meets with the Prime Minister and can offer advice and encouragement, the decisions regarding government policies are ultimately made by the Prime Minister and the cabinet.

The current King ascended to the throne following his mother's passing in September 2022. He is married to Queen Camilla, and their eldest son, Prince William, is next in line for the throne.

As King, he performs significant ceremonial duties, such as inaugurating the new parliamentary session each year. During this event, he delivers a speech outlining the government's plans for the upcoming year, and all acts of Parliament are carried out in his name.

The King also represents the UK internationally, hosting foreign ambassadors and dignitaries, welcoming visiting heads of state, and undertaking state visits abroad to bolster diplomatic and economic ties with other nations.

Beyond these formal roles, the King plays a vital role in providing stability and continuity for the nation. While governments and Prime Ministers change over time, the King remains a constant figurehead, serving as a symbol of national identity and pride.
